A voice for the GBM community is lost.
In Memoriam: Adam Hayden (1982–2025)
We’re deeply saddened by the loss of Adam Hayden, a giant in the glioblastoma community. Adam was a great communicator who wrote (check out his blog Glioblastology) and spoke with great wisdom and thoughtfulness. He was funny, open, generous with his time, and deeply kind. We will miss him. Holding his family and friends in the light. His obituary.
From a post by Adam on being a long-term GBM survivor:
“Learning to live with brain cancer makes one a witness to others. An empathetic witness. One who can sit and be present with one who is suffering to give value to the experience and help others make sense of what is happening. But here’s the deal, the tools to move in the direction of acceptance include mental health care, supportive community, access to top notch oncology care, and, the one thing that you can’t shortcut, time. I’ve had seven and a half years.
Because time is a finite resource for those living with brain cancer, the more of it you have, the fewer fellow witnesses are with you along the way.”
From OurBrainBank founder Jessica Morris:
“[With OurBrainBank], we are hoping — determinedly so — to bring together people like me and Adam who are living with GBM, with people like you, who are anxious about people like us. We want to use our collective power to make it possible for everyone with GBM to live way beyond two years post diagnosis.
Unlocking the extraordinary power of patients is the key. People like me and Adam have learnt more about life and death in the last two years than most people will ever get a chance to.”
