NEWS May 2024
Like us, our UK followers may have seen the announcement from the National Institute for Heath and Care Research (NIHR) about £40m of funding for brain tumour research, which on the face of it is to be welcomed. That £40m was first announced 6 years ago by Government and has been largely unspent despite the desperate need for progress to treat this ferocious and unforgiving cancer. In that time 96,000 more people have had a brain tumour diagnosis in the UK and 65,472 have sadly lost their lives to the disease. Behind these statistics are real people – wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, parents and children.
We add our voices to the calls from other charities in the sector for the money to be put to use immediately, with clear accountability, so that those being diagnosed today and tomorrow see real progress in their lifetimes. It’s time to turn the warm words into immediate action.
