NEWS December 2023
OurBrainBank is proud that the White House invited us to be part of the ambitious Cancer Moonshot effort. Here’s the latest from Washington DC and how everyone in the US can be involved whether by sharing stories, posting on social media (use #BidenCancerMoonshot), or learning about the latest research and advances.
“2023 Was a Progress-Packed Year for the Biden Cancer Moonshot
In 2023, the Biden Cancer Moonshot advanced over 60 commitments from across government and industry, totaling 30 new actions from across the government, through the impactful work of the Cancer Cabinet, and over 30 combined national and international commitments from nonprofits, companies, advocacy organizations, and others. You can learn more about the range of commitments and their progress here. Together, these actions bring us closer to achieving the ambitious but achievable goals of the reignited Cancer Moonshot: (1) to decrease the death rate from cancer by at least 50% in the next 25 years, preventing more than 4 million cancer deaths by 2047; and (2) to improve the experience of people who are touched by cancer.
With your help, we brought key advocates, and community and government leaders to the White House to push forward progress on colorectal cancer, brain cancers, smoking cessation, improving equity in care and outcomes, and childhood cancers. In speaking to national and global audiences, the President and First Lady Biden and members of the Cancer Moonshot team urged everyone to join our work across priority areas to: Expand Access to Cancer Screenings; Understand and Prevent Toxic and Environmental Exposures; Prevent More Cancers Before They Start; Drive New Innovation and Deliver the Latest Progress to Patients and Communities; and Support and Center Patients and Caregivers. Of note, we took major steps forward in delivering on President Biden’s commitment to providing navigation support to every American facing cancer. There is still much work to be done, however, I wanted to take a moment to mark the deep collaboration, innovation, and hope in these significant efforts.
